About the Legacy Program

San Tan's advanced soccer program is entitled  "Legacy".  Each age group, beginning with U7, typically has two teams — a Red team and a White team. Teams under the age of 10 are considered developmental (not competitive). The emphasis in the Legacy program is on individual skills development and team-building. Winning is important, but it is not the focus of play in the program.  We are developing strong teams and soccer players. Players are introduced to a high level of play and coaching at a young age, training twice a week (under the age of 10) and three times a week (U11 thru U18) with a professional trainer.

All players under the age of 10 are placed on a team through a Clinics Assessment (evaluations) process. Players not yet ready for competitive soccer and referred to San Tan's recreational program. Players are placed based on their age, ability and athletic commitment.  Players age U11 thru U18 are placed on a team through a tryout (competitive) process based on their age, ability and athletic commitment. This process creates multiple teams at each age level and allows each player to be on a team that best suits his or her technical ability, desire, athletic ability and tactical awareness at the time. The most effective means for advancement is to have each group as equally matched in skill level as possible. This allows us to tailor specific objectives for each group of players.

Legacy teams under the age of 10 play in either the San Tan Recreational League, or in one of the Valley leagues.  In the early stages, a young Legacy team will play recreational teams consisting of players a year older.  If and when a Legacy team demonstrates that recreational competition no longer aids in their development, the team will move into competitive league play, where it will play against teams from other soccer clubs throughout the Phoenix metropolitan area.  San Tan Legacy teams under the age of 10 also are required to play in a few tournaments between August and March.  At the end of the soccer year (March), teams participate in the State Cup tournament.

Legacy teams age U11 thru U18 play in a competitive league against teams from other soccer clubs throughout the Phoenix metropolitan area, and sometimes further away.  These Legacy teams also play in a number of tournaments throughout the state, and sometimes out-of-state.  At the end of the year (April-May), these teams participate in the State Cup tournament.
