San Tan Recreational Skills Training Sessions


The Recreational Skills Training Program is based on fun and establishing a basic understanding of the rules of the game. Practice sessions will have exercises to develop coordination, agility, and speed of reaction through small-sided fun games and individual technical instruction. Recreational training is offered for all ages during the Fall and Winter Sessions.

Note:  All sessions will be held on Field 1 at Snedigar Sportsplex.

Skills Sessions Outline

Week 1
Dribbling – Focus on technique – 1v1 progressing to 2v1

Week 2
Passing – Inside of foot passing and receiving communication between passer and receiver – 2v1 progressing to 2v2

Week 3
Passing and moving – Moving off the ball still using inside of feet – Give and go passing including wall passes and takeovers – 2v1 progressing to 3v2

Week 4
Shooting – Instep to drive ball

Week 5
Receiving the ball out of the air/ Juggling – Fundamentals of trapping the ball using feet, thighs, chest, and head – 1v1 with ball played in from the air progressing to 2v1 ball still played in from the air.

Week 6
Goalkeeper training – Basics of catching the ball and strategies behind goalkeeping

Week 7
Passing – Chipping – Learning how to get ball in the air and reviewing how to bring the ball down from the air.

Week 8
Finishing – One touch shooting and basic principles of attacking the goal.  3v2 attacking a big goal. 

Week 9
Defending – Basic principles – Shadowing, tackling and support, 1v2 progressing to 2v3

Week 10
Passing – Penetrating looking for a backwards pass and then going forward.  2v1 progressing to 3v2

Week 11

Competitions – 3v3 tournament, Juggling Competition, Other assorted games.
